About 26cup.org

Who Runs This Site

26cup.org is an independent project built and operated by Jay, a sports data enthusiast and software developer. This is a self-funded passion project — not backed by any betting company, media conglomerate, or sports organization. I built this because I believe high-quality football predictions should be free and accessible to every fan around the world.

I've been building data-driven sports analytics tools for years. For the 2026 World Cup, I decided to open-source the methodology and make the predictions publicly available — so anyone can see exactly how the numbers work, compare their own predictions, and enjoy the tournament with data-informed insights.

How We Make Money

26cup.org is completely free to use — no paywalls, no subscriptions, no premium tiers. The site is funded through advertising (Google AdSense). You may see sponsored ads on the page; these help cover hosting and data costs.

We do NOT accept money from bookmakers, betting sites, or sports organizations to influence predictions or rankings. Our AI model is strictly mathematical — no sponsor can pay for a higher prediction. We are not affiliated with FIFA, any national football association, or any sportsbook.

We do NOT offer betting advice, sell tipster services, or run any paid prediction tiers. All predictions are free, public, and for entertainment purposes only.

How Our AI Works

We use a Dixon-Coles Bivariate Poisson model anchored by Elo ratings — a proven statistical approach used in academic football research since 1997.

The prediction pipeline:

  1. FIFA Ranking → Elo Rating: Each team's FIFA ranking is converted to an Elo score (#1 = 2400, ±8 per rank).
  2. News Modifier: Latest injury reports and lineup news adjust each team's Elo (±5–15 points per impact score).
  3. Goal Trend Analysis: Recent warm-up match performances are weighted by recency (exponential decay) to compute net goal differential trends.
  4. Situational Factors: Home advantage (+40 Elo), host nation bonus (+20 Elo), cross-continent travel penalty, and knockout pressure adjustment.
  5. Dixon-Coles Poisson Matrix: Expected goals are converted into a full score probability matrix, with a special correction for low-scoring outcomes (0-0, 1-0, 0-1, 1-1) that naive Poisson models underestimate.
  6. Champion Prediction: Adds squad market value (Transfermarkt), group opponent strength, and host nation bonus to rank all 48 teams by trophy probability.

Our Mission

We believe transparent, data-driven sports analysis should be available to everyone — not locked behind paywalls or betting affiliate walls. Every prediction on this site comes with a full AI explanation so you understand exactly why the model thinks what it thinks. You can compare your own predictions against ours, track accuracy in real time, and make up your own mind.

Football is unpredictable — that's what makes it beautiful. Our model gives you the best statistical estimate, but the real magic happens on the pitch.
